JOBS
Creating jobs is vital for building a vibrant community. In my role as the Chair of Economic Development and the Board Policy Chair for the Foothill Workforce Development Board, we have not only implemented policies to help existing businesses provide jobs, but also created policies and made zoning amendments and changes for Pasadena to become a bioscience hub for Southern California. With the presence of the Kaiser School of Medicine, the upcoming Carnegie Institute, and the California Institute of Technology, we are strategically positioned to generate a variety of high-paying careers. These major introductions will also create opportunities for moderate and small businesses to thrive in our community.

For existing small and moderate businesses, the Foothill Workforce Development Board has provided support through training programs and funding for employee training.

In terms of government jobs, I have advocated for a 30% increase in participation in our amazing MASH program. This program offers an introduction to government employment through various departments such as Public Works, City Manager's Office, City Attorney's Office, and Clerk's Office. It aims to create well-rounded individuals who are prepared for employment within our city or other municipalities in our region.

In terms of f direct community, I have hosted and partnered with over 50 job fairs in the past five years. Many individuals were hired at these fairs, starting their careers in the hospitality industry, working for renowned hotels in our region such as Hilton and Langham.

Our small businesses contribute significantly to our community, so I have worked closely with city staff to find creative ways for the city to support them and for them to support the city. By procuring services locally, we have increased the procurement of services within our city, but there is still more work to be done.

For job seekers looking for employment, I encourage you to reach out to the Foothill Workforce Development Board located on Green Street.
