HOME OWNERSHIP

Building a Strong Community

New Home Ownership
New home ownership is indeed vital for creating a vibrant community, especially in a city like Pasadena where we have an aging population. While it is crucial to support and care for the existing residents, it is equally important to welcome and embrace newcomers, encouraging them to become an integral part of the fabric that makes Pasadena a great community.

As someone who has deep roots in Pasadena, being a sixth-generation resident, I understand the beauty of our connected community. We have a unique sense of interconnectedness that spans generations. It is this sense of connection that allows us to stay engaged with long-time residents while also educating and integrating newcomers into our community.

By fostering a welcoming environment, we can ensure that new residents feel included and valued. We can provide them with the necessary resources and information to navigate our community, understand its history, and actively participate in its growth and development. This includes promoting community events, encouraging involvement in local organizations, and facilitating opportunities for interaction and collaboration among residents.

By embracing both our long-time residents and newcomers, we can create a diverse and dynamic community that benefits from the experiences, perspectives, and contributions of all its members. Together, we can continue to build a Pasadena that thrives on its interconnectedness and celebrates the strength that comes from our shared experiences and collective efforts.

Affordable Home Ownership
n the face of rising real estate costs, it is indeed crucial for the city to support developers who are committed to producing affordable housing. Developers like Heritage Housing Partners play a vital role in addressing the housing needs of the community, particularly for low- and moderate-income individuals and families.

By supporting developers who focus on affordable housing, the city can ensure that there are homeownership opportunities available to those who may otherwise struggle to enter the housing market. Affordable homeownership provides stability, pride, and a sense of belonging to individuals and families, contributing to the overall well-being of the community.

The fact that, since being elected, your district has produced 20+ homeownership opportunities for affordable homeowners and their families is commendable. This demonstrates a commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive community where individuals from various income levels can find a place to call home.

By continuing to support developers who prioritize affordable housing, the city can address the housing affordability crisis and provide opportunities for individuals and families to build equity, improve their financial stability, and contribute to the overall growth and prosperity of the community.

And as the Chair of Economic Development, I have supported and implemented policies to create over 80 home ownership affordability projects within the past four years. These are your public dollars at their best, working to create a beautiful quilt of diversity by weaving in new, old, and existing residences.

Understanding equity in your home
For our existing residents, it's important that they understand the equity in their homes. Some of our residents are getting older and want to downsize. They don't necessarily want to start over, and they need a sense of community. I have created policies to make it easier for them to build ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units) in the community they are most familiar with. This allows them to downsize while still staying connected to the community,

What about when children come home from college or in unfortunate circumstances where a resident need extra space. By providing this option, they are able to preserve Pasadena's character and keep our community connected, which is one of my top priorities.
