ABOUT TYRON

About Tyron Hampton

BORN IN PASADENA.

was born and raised East of the Arroyo and attended the PUSD. I went to Cleveland Elementary, Washington Middle School, and John Muir High School. I was always eager to learn and even attended PCC while still in high school. Eventually, I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona.

For the past 20+ years, I have been working in my family business, where I oversee construction projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget.

I am happily married to my high school sweetheart, who also attended John Muir High School. She went on to obtain her PhD from Caltech.

In 2006, I bought my own home. It took months of hard work, but I managed to remodel the entire interior, including the kitchen and bathroom. In 2007, my wife Tara and I moved in. In 2014, we were blessed with the birth of our daughter Peyton. The following year, we purchased a new home in the First District, near the Rose Bowl.

In 2015, I had the honor of being elected as Councilmember of the First District. My main focus is to protect home values and enhance the quality of life for families and seniors in our neighborhoods.

I am committed to serving the residents of Pasadena by providing access to city resources and departments, building relationships, and amplifying their voices. My personal connection to this city, which I have always called home, fuels my dedication to strengthening the First District and, in turn, the entire City.

Every resident and stakeholder, regardless of age, is important to me. I have successfully collaborated to establish youth programs, such as the "Get in the Swim" program at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center for students at Washington Multilingual STEAM Multilingual Academy, and the "Field Trip to the Field" program at Rose Bowl Stadium for all seventh-grade students in PUSD. These programs provide access, exposure, and opportunities for young people. I have also helped numerous young individuals secure their first work or internship experiences in the City. For our senior population, I have advocated for PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) centers, which help seniors reduce social isolation and continue living in their homes, a meaningful aspect for them and their families.

Since my election to the City Council in 2015, I have consistently engaged with residents of the First District through neighborhood walks, community meetings (both in-person and virtual), and district events like my annual Pancake Breakfast Block Party & Community Meeting at Brookside. I work tirelessly to ensure that the First District is the safest place to call home in Pasadena. I encourage neighbors to communicate with me and with each other because strong communication among neighbors strengthens our neighborhoods. I am a strong advocate for traffic improvement efforts throughout the First District, making it safer for everyone. Additionally, I push for significant improvements to amenities in the First District that contribute to an enhanced quality of life for residents.

In addition to representing the First District on the City Council, I serve on various committees, advisory boards, and commissions, including the Economic Development & Technology/ED Tech Committee (Chair), Municipal Services Committee, Public Safety Committee, Foothill Employment & Training Consortium Policy Board, Pasadena Center Operating Company/PCOC (Chair), Gamble House Board of Overseers, and Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority.

I had the privilege of serving as the City's Vice Mayor from May 2019 to December 2020. In March 2020, I was re-elected to represent the First District on the City Council for a second term.

Before my time on the City Council, I won my first election in 2013 and served as a board member for the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD). During my tenure on the school board, I utilized my skills as a local business owner to improve communication between board members and families. I also found innovative solutions to overcome budget shortfalls. As a PUSD board member, I played a key role in introducing Wi-Fi to all PUSD schools, creating a PUSD newsletter, implementing STEAM magnet programs, increasing science and technology resources at the elementary level, bringing college-focused programs to the district, conducting campus physical inspections for repairs, and supporting various other initiatives that brought positive change to the PUSD.

Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, I have been running a commercial floor covering business for over a decade. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Tara Gomez-Hampton, Ph.D., who is an alumna of the California Institute of Technology. Together, we have two daughters, Peyton and Pria, born in 2014 and 2022 respectively, as well as a wonderful extended family. When I'm not working or serving on the City Council, I enjoy spending time with my family and staying active through fitness activities.
